Rather than 500 days of summer.
Oh, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, why can’t movies like you exist now? You were more real than any of these movies that try to act real.
totally agreed, queenz. favorite movie of all time.
The Ending of an Era-
Tangier Island (my band) played a show on Friday, December 4th, and if you were there, we sincerely apologize. There were major difficulties in the sound system that caused for a ruined mood and attitude towards our folksy demeanor. We tried our best.
Tangier Island has decided to start from scratch. We’re scrapping all of the written works that we have down for our original album, Forgotten Roanoke (From Magic Days to Star City Nights). We have decided to do this because of the pretension that we realized we had inhabited in our music. Our music was not about things personal or intimate, or for that matter, about things that were happening with us, with our band, with the world. It’s useless to write on a topic, unless you’re writing an essay, right? Truthful writing must be done with inspiration, with a meaning, with a desire to write something original, and to create something that’s your own. Recalling accounts that happened in Virginia long ago based on what we read on Wikipedia wasn’t going to cut it. We had faith in our music, but too much faith. We became cocky, saying that “we are going to hit it so big!” and “this album is gonna be sweeet!!!”. We thought that what we wanted was an Indie sounding record- to appeal to “The indie crowd” to gain some “cred”. But what Reid and I realized is that it’s useless, unless you’re writing about something real, something honest and thought through, with first-person accounts, and not just edited pages from the internet. So with this in mind, I want all of the fans of Tangier Island to forget who we were, and to think of us as a new band.
Forgotten Roanoke (From Magic Days to Star City Nights)
Dear god, I’m trying hard to reach you
Dear god, I see your face in all I do
Sometimes it’s so hard to believe in
Good god I know you have your reasons
Dear god I see you move the mountains
Dear god I see you moving trees
Sometimes it’s nothing to believe in
Sometimes it’s everything I see
Well I’ve been thinking about,
And I’ve been breaking it down without an answer
I know I’m thinking aloud but if your loves
Still around why do we suffer?
Why do we suffer?
Dear god, I wish that I could touch you
How strange sometimes I feel I almost do
And then I’m back behind the glass again
Oh god what keeps you out it keeps me in
Well I’ve been thinking about,
And I’ve been breaking down without an answer
I know I’m thinking aloud but if your loves
Still around why do we suffer?
Why do we suffer?— Monsters of Folk
